LAOs given green light to reduce or waive rental fees

Vendors and entrepreneurs hit by the Covid-19 crisis were handed a lifeline on Wednesday (April 15) when local administrative organisations (LAOs) were given permission to suspend or lower their rent.

The Interior Ministry has informed LAOs that they can reduce or waive rental fees on the markets and other facilities they operate, to help renters suffering impacts from the Covid-19 contagion and lockdown.

Chatchai Phromlert, permanent secretary at the ministry, said that relevant committees of the LAOs could consider relieving the financial burden of Covid-19 by lowering or exempting rental fees or other rental benefits.

However, the committees could not target the relief at specified renters.

If their committees gave the green light to rent relief, LAOs could implement the measure.
